When kids are asked what they did over Spring Break, not many get the opportunity to say, “I made my own movie.” Yet, at the Stir Up The Gift Make a Movie Spring Break Camp taking place on March 14, 15 and 16, from 8 am to 5:45 pm, students ages 6-14 will be able to make their own little piece of cinematic history. Not to mention, this may plant inspiration for kids to set the course for their own bright future in the performing arts.
Stir Up The Gift, a 501c-3 non-profit organization based at 3321 Princeton Road, in Spring Hill, is made up of highly skilled and recognized individuals who are willing to stir-up the artistic gifts of local young people.
“At this camp, students will make their own short films, write scripts, direct, arrange sets and act,” said Melinda Crandle, talent director of Stir Up The Gift Talent. “At the end, they will have a reel that they can present to movie industry professionals.”
At the make a movie camp, students learn to make acting reels all the way from script to shoot. Working in small groups, campers will conceptualize, script, arrange sets and props for, and film short movies in both interior and exterior settings–producing polished and edited results that can be shown to prospective agents, casting directors, managers, etc.
“The kids will learn every aspect of making films, why every line, every expression, every prop and set piece, every camera angle and line of dialogue is a deliberate choice,” said Crandle. “And by working in groups, they can work with kids they may not know, give and receive constructive critiques. And if something doesn’t work, they can go back and try again.”
Diversity and variety will be par for the course at the make a movie camp. “Some kids who usually make comedy videos might try to do drama, or vice versa,” said Crandle. “They could encourage their friends to join the camp, trading ideas.”
Also during this camp, students will learn, practice and record monologues and/or voice overs, as well as learn about the magical world of musicals. “They will watch musicals, learn songs and choreo, and make musical films,” said Crandle. Campers also will enjoy karaoke, games and other fun activities.
The cost of the Stir Up The Gift Make a Movie Spring Break Camp is $100 for those who bring their own meals/snacks, $125 to access studio breakfast and snacks, $150 for breakfast, lunch and snacks. Early drop offs/pickups are available with additional cost. Call 813-823-6008 for more information.
Crandle shared, “When parents send their kids to this camp, they can breathe easy knowing their kids will be safe and have fun during Spring Break. And they will be learning about the arts, getting to know themselves and their talents.”
