Crews from the Hernando County Fire and Rescue (HCFR) and a passing boater teamed up to save a woman whose kayak flipped in Byster Lake near Brooksville.
According to the agency, around 8 a.m. on April 2, an HCFR crew responded to the scene, where they found a woman whose kayak had flipped above the water, unresponsive and clinging to the vessel that was drifting further and further away from the shoreline. She was not wearing a life jacket.
A boater helped members of the HCFR crew rescue the woman and bring her to shore.
After the condition of the woman was evaluated at the scene, she was taken by helicopter to a local trauma center for further treatment.
