The Patrick Space Force Base has been chosen as the home for the U.S. Space Force Space Training and Readiness Command (STARCOM) as well as for Space Delta 10. The location was announced on May 31 by U.S. Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall.
One of three U.S. Space Force field commands, STARCOM, is responsible for the development, education, and training of space professionals, as well as for the development of space war-fighting doctrine, tactics, techniques, and procedures and for the operational testing and evaluation of Space Force systems.
Space Delta 10 is responsible for doctrine and tactics, conducts the Air Force’s Lessons Learned program, and both supports and carries out wargames to appropriately posture U.S. space forces and those of designated joint and allied partners.
Gov. Ron DeSantis said the preliminary site selection recognizes Florida’s long connection to spaceflight and exploration.
“We are honored to host the Space Training and Readiness Command headquarters and continue Florida’s history as America’s gateway to outer space.”
According to Kendall, Patrick Air Force Base was chosen following the Air Force’s study of the site’s infrastructure, community support, environmental factors, and cost, as well as its ability to undertake and facilitate the mission.
Final approval of the Florida site is contingent on the results of the Air Force’s environmental impact analysis. Those findings are expected to be completed later this year.
