Lions still show potential after loss to Donahue

Hernando Christian Academy started their first 6 man football season on Sept. 14 with a powerful win over Faith Christian (56-12). However, a tougher match awaited HCA when they faced top team in the league, Donahue Catholic.  Donahue dominated their home turf Friday Sept. 28 putting 33 points on the board over HCA’s 6 points.

“Fumbles and penalties is why that score is the way it is and all those are fixable,” Coach Lance Swan said. “It’s not the want to, it wasn’t the desire, it wasn’t the hussle…. (the team) fought from start to finish, we could not overcome our mistakes.”

While Donahue Catholic remains undefeated,  their scoring potential was held down considerably by HCA.  In their previous games, Donahue averaged 70 points on the board.

Deontae Judd put the 6 points on the scoreboard in the third quarter. HCA held back Donahue until the latter part of the third quarter, but became disconnected going into the fourth.

Sophomore Andrew Santerelli took an interception and recovered a fumble against the Shamrocks.

“I thought I did pretty good. My teammates, they lost a little and I tried to pick them up,” Andrew Santerelli said. “We’ll get them next time.”

This week HCA takes on Faith Christian Academy on October 5th in Plant City.
