The Hernando Sun covers high school sports throughout the school year, and with summer break comes some time to review the stats. We have put together the Hernando Sun all-county teams for boys and girls. Each team that was covered within the county will be featured within the all-county teams from the 2022-2023 campaign. The all-county teams are compiled based on regular-season statistics, team accomplishments, and regular-season performances.
Below is the 2022-2023 Hernando Sun All-County Boys Basketball team.
Guard- Isaac Priester, Weeki Wachee, JR: The Hornets made a big leap last season as a team, and Priester played a major role in Weeki Wachee’s turnaround. Through 27 games last season, Priester averaged a team-high 15.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals for the Hornets.
Guard- Divine Torain, Springstead, SR: Springstead went 10-14 last season, but the Eagles were competitive with just about anyone, and Torain was a big reason why they were able to compete. The glue that held together the team, Torain averaged 15.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Guard- Luke Sanders, Nature Coast, SR: Sanders was named to the Nature Coast Holiday All-Tournament team, and overall, he was one of the better guards in Hernando County last season. The six-foot-two guard averaged a team-high 14.4 points and 4.0 rebounds a game.
Forward- Caden Bergantino, Central, SR: The combo guard could play either position at 6-foot-4 and also a little small forward as well. For the 22-7 Bears, Bergantino could do it all and was one of the county’s best players all season long. Bergantino averaged 14.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.3 steals a game.
Forward- RJ Wilson, Hernando, SR: Wilson was one of the county’s leading scorers all throughout the 2022-2024 campaign and had the Leopards as one of the surprising clubs last winder. The forward averaged 16.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.5 steals.
Utility- Braden Joyner, Central, JR: It’s hard to ignore that Central was one of the county’s top teams from last season, and the duo of Bergantino and Joyner was hard to stop for opposing clubs. Last season for the Bears, Joyner averaged 12.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.7 steals a game.
