Pop culture will be the theme of a grand fall art exhibit at the Ever After Gallery in Spring Hill. Area artists seeking a prime opportunity to show and sell their work to the public are invited to submit their visual interpretations of this popular theme, to be unveiled during Ever After’s annual Halloween celebration on October 13.
Serving Hernando County for nearly eight years Ever After is a tattoo shop and art gallery located at 13053 Spring Hill Dr., Spring Hill.
“Pop culture is a very broad theme and could apply to a wide range of trends, artistic themes, shows, movies, and characters,” said Viviana Kohlas, an Ever After spokesperson. “It’s what the artist wants it to be.”
Pieces of all sizes and media will be accepted for the pop culture exhibit, which will run from 10/13/23–11/30/23. Artists may submit up to three pieces per person for this exhibit; they have the option to post their work for sale but are not required to do so.
“And although the art will be unveiled at our Halloween party, these artists’ pop culture images don’t have to be scary,” said Kohlas. “Unless, of course, that’s what the artist wants.”
According to ThoughtCo., In general, the term pop culture refers to music, art, literature, fashion, dance, film, cyberculture, television, and radio that held mass appeal to a population of people during a certain time in history, thus defining and dictating the artistic expression and cultural traditions of that time. The term originated in the mid-19th century.
The Halloween party and art exhibit have become a tradition at Ever After, which hosts the event nearly every year. “We did have to take a few years off because of COVID,” said Kohlas. “But this year, we’re back.”
The Ever After Halloween celebration, set to take place at 8 p.m. on Oct. 13, will be a free event that will feature a costume contest, a DJ, cheese and crackers, finger foods, wines, and other treats.
Those interested in participating in the pop culture art exhibit can submit their art via Facebook messenger, https://www.facebook.com/everaftergallery, by September 15. If an artist’s work is selected for the exhibit, Ever After representatives will contact them via messenger. Selected artwork must be dropped off at the studio by October 9th; all pieces submitted need to come complete with finished edges or be framed and ready to hang.
This exhibit, says Kohlas, offers local artists a great opportunity for their ‘pop pieces’ to be seen and enjoyed. “This is a chance for artists to get exposure and to express themselves,” she said. “And to meet people in this area interested in the arts.”
