Hernando County residents who have questions about the status of their Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) applications, need help finding housing and rental assistance or want to learn about Small Business Administration (SBA) loan programs in the wake of Hurricane Idalia may visit the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the Spring Hill Library Branch, 9220 Spring Hill Dr. in Spring Hill, beginning Sept. 16.

Representatives from local government, not-for-profit agencies, and other local services will be present, said Hernando County Public Information Coordinator Dominique Holmes. The SBA can offer low-interest, long-term loans for people, nonprofits, and businesses that are uninsured or underinsured. Individuals may apply until Oct. 30. The deadline for business-related loans is May 2024.

According to Holmes, it is critical for those who have been affected by Hurricane Idalia to at least apply for Individual Assistance (IA) and SBA programs, even if they do not ultimately follow through on their applications. “By not applying, you could jeopardize some ability to make an application for future assistance or programs,” she said.

The DRC will remain open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. beginning Sept. 17 until further notice, Holmes said.
