The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) continues to seek whoever is responsible for shooting a pair of victims in connection with a presumed home invasion in Spring Hill.
The manhunt began shortly before 5 a.m. on Oct. 11, when deputies responded to a call reporting a shooting on Marquette Street in Spring Hill.
At the scene, they found that two adults had sustained gunshot wounds. One died at the scene. The other was taken to a trauma center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
No further information about the surviving victim is currently available.
After the victims were discovered, HCSO personnel cordoned off the Marquette Street neighborhood in search of the alleged shooter or shooters who left the scene either on foot or in a vehicle.
Those responsible for the shootings remain at large.
According to HCSO Media Relations Manager Denise Moloney, the preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting incident began as a home invasion gone wrong.
“Home invasions are not typically random, but targeted acts of violence,” she said.
Though detectives are relatively sure that those responsible for the incident have moved on from the immediate Marquette Street area, they remind residents of the area to remain vigilant and notify the HCSO if they see any suspicious individuals or vehicles in the area.
Meanwhile, residents in the area of the crime scene should review any video footage they may have from 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Oct. 11 that shows any individuals and vehicles in the area at that time.
Those who have videos that could help investigators should call the HCSO at 352-754-6830 and ask to speak with a Major Case detective.
As of Oct. 12, Moloney said she had no further information about the case but that updates would be released when they become available.
