Notice of Intent to Name County Property or Facility
BY THE HERNANDO COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, FLORIDA, NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that, pursuant to Ordinance No. 31-01 of the Hernando County Ordinances, comments, objections, and recommendations regarding the County’s intent to name County Property after Mr. Lorenzo Hamilton.
Mr. Lorenzo Hamilton first came to Brooksville in 1965, during a time when there was no integration in the school system. The black students attended Moton High School and the white students attended Hernando High School. After integration was completed, he transferred to Hernando High School and eventually became Assistant Principal. Mr. Lorenzo Hamilton served in many pivotal roles during his time within the educational system. He served as a football coach and Physical Education teacher in 1966. He founded Kennedy Park Little League to give African American boys in Brooksville a chance to play organized baseball. He also formed the Brooksville Jets Girls softball team, which went on to win a State Championship. Mr. Lorenzo Hamilton helped students attain scholarships, and study for college entrance exams. Mr. Hamilton coordinated the first Black History assembly at Hernando High School in 1971. To sum it up, he went beyond the call of duty. Mr. Lorenzo Hamilton has established himself as a major contributor to the lives and education of many community members in Brooksville and Hernando County.
The location of the property is located at Kennedy Park at 899 Kennedy Boulevard, Parcel Key # 357143, 22 acres South of East Jefferson and East of Emerson Road, in Hernando County, Florida. This intent is to rename the park.
At this time, the Board will receive public comment on the proposed Intent to name County property mailed to Hernando County Administration 15470 Flight Path Drive, Brooksville, Fl 34604, until October 21, 2023.
The public hearing will be held at the John Law Ayers room on the first floor of the Government Center, located at 20 North Main Street in Brooksville, FL 34601 on October 24, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., or as soon thereafter as the matter can be heard.

For such purpose, a person appealing the decision may need to ensure the creation of a verbatim record, which captures the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is based.
