A Brooksville man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly battered a law enforcement officer from Pasco County, fled the scene and was intercepted by troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
FHP Public Affairs Officer (PAO) Sgt. Steve Gaskins said that shortly after 2 a.m. on Nov. 20, deputies from Pasco County asked FHP Troopers to intercept a white pick-up truck driven by 18-year-old Juelius Austin Matusiak of Brooksville who was fleeing the scene of an incident on Trouble Creek Road during which he allegedly battered a law enforcement officer.
Troopers joined local deputies pursuing the pick-up and stopped the vehicle on SR54 and Rowan Road by executing a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver. A PIT maneuver forces a fleeing vehicle to turn sideways abruptly, causing the driver to lose control and stop.
Matusiak was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, driving under the influence (DUI) and fleeing and eluding law enforcement.
His case is pending.
