A new display case has been added to the children’s bedroom at the May-Stringer Museum. This room is sometimes called Jessie May’s room for a child who once lived there…Jessie May Saxon. Mothers, especially, have an affection for a child’s first shoes and tend to save them. In some cases, parents had the baby’s first shoes bronzed to preserve them.
There are several pairs of toddlers’ footwear on display. Today’s kids have velcro to wrap their shoes onto their feet. Perhaps they may even learn to tie their shoelaces. However, taking a good look at the tiny shoes in the exhibit makes one glad not to have to button your shoes or those of a squirming toddler!
All three museums will be closed on Thanksgiving but will be open on Friday and Saturday. A trip to the Museums is a great way to entertain out-of-town guests or to avoid Black Friday craziness!
