Why I am Thankful

It was just after 3:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning. I couldn’t sleep anymore, because of the pain running down my spinal area, as well as the pinched lumbar bones. This activated the sciatic nerves going down the side of my right leg as well. These last weeks since injuring myself (again) have been a blur of going to a handful of doctors and their differing locations. I have a regimen of pills at my disposal for the pain, but where they are supposed to last for four or five hours, they wear off in three to four hours, and I repeat the process all over again. You may then be asking what this has to do with being thankful. (Hold on, because here it comes).

My wife has a nifty list of the meds that I have been taking for the pain, as well as the time periods of their ingestion, so I don’t get into trouble by overloading some of my internal organs. She has been faithful at making this procedure work. I give God my most heart-felt thanks just for her.

I woke up (as was mentioned earlier) and tried not to wake my “better half.” I came out to the kitchen and got some coffee started, then thought over the morning scenario (involving going to yet another clinic). This time, it would be for an M.R.I. procedure. As I was waiting for the timer alarm on the microwave to sound off, I had a little time to dwell on a few of the blessings that I have taken for granted these many days (and honestly, for the majority of my life)! I started looking around my living area (and my life) and realized that I had some thanks and praise due to my/our God for all he has done. Then it hit me, I have never given (or have never taken) the chance to share my thoughts of gratitude with all of you readers, and I have been given a good chance to do it now. That was blessing #1. Then I looked around where I was standing and did a quick assessment. Wow, look at all of these blessings that I have! There were literally too many to count!

So, as it has been said, “a picture is worth a thousand words,” I got my Smartphone off of the electric charger to take some pictures (and Oops, there are more blessings)! Our microwave timer buzzer went off, reminding me that the cup of water for my coffee was ready! Man, there is a handful blessings right in front of me! I had hot, potable water in my cup, and I didn’t have to go outside and start a fire for that water to be heated. I had only to spin around from where I was making the coffee, and there was the INSTANT coffee, already ground up and refined sugar (gotta have that)! There was a fresh gallon of milk in the fridge (two blessings there) and I cannot forget the container of “Coffee – Mate” (chocolate-caramel flavored, of course)!

After I assembled the much-needed morning survival concoction, I headed back to the dining room and assembled the items (for the next round of blessings). I went and opened up the containers of pills, needed to cut that confounding aching. Those pills were placed in front of me on a CLEAN paper napkin. I spun around and got a few cookies (so the pills would have something to adhere to besides my empty stomach lining). Cha-ching (more blessings)! As I started this almost habitual ritual of taking the cookie and pills assembly, I looked over at the T.V. and at the remote control box(es) needed to operate the unit and commenced to fiddle with the sound and channel buttons. (Now, I can remember many (many) years ago, having to turn those confounded “Rabbit ear” antennas just to get a halfway decent black and white picture! Now, it is time for the most important blessings. I went over to the computer and got it warmed up so that I could share with our reader base this morning epiphany. Before I continue with this list of accumulated (but not absolutely essential) things, I said a brief prayer to OUR GOD, thanking Him for allowing me (and my family) the chance to live in a country that is (still) free, where I can say what I want to say, without me (and my family) being hauled off to a political “gulag,” and WOW, that coffee sure tastes good this morning! Where was I? Oh yes, we can be thankful that we still have a plethora of freedoms that were passed down to this generation of American citizens and continue to be afforded to us by the blood, sweat, tears and most importantly, LIVES, of the many members of our Armed Forces and domestic heroes, both past and present.

And I must say this; I would give the F.B.I. the same high praises, if they would not have given in to the political machine (with regards to 1) Hunter Biden’s “laptop from hell” 2) the allowance of Joe “Mr. Cartel” Biden’s lying under oath about his “brand” and 3) the F.B.I.’s locking up of innocent bystanders (with red hats), and letting the Antifa and B.L.M. rioters go. There are a great many F.B.I. workers out there. They just have to remove the “bad fruit” from the top echelons.

Okay, so in closing, I will ask (and recommend) that as we all still have to live together on this ‘third rock from the sun,’ let’s make an effort to show God’s love to those that need a helping hand. Let us give praise and thanks to HIM for allowing us to be stewards of the greatest country on Earth! America, the land of the free, and the home of the brave!
