In her new role as Executive Director of Brooksville Main Street, Dawn Triconi of Spring Hill has a vast multitude of goals and plans in mind—all of which share a single common objective. “I want to offer events and programs that bring smiles to people’s faces,” Triconi said.

A longtime Hernando resident, Triconi holds degrees from Springstead High School and Pasco-Hernando Community College. She served as the finance director for United Way of Hernando County. She also accepted a position with the Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce as their event coordinator, later being promoted to director of operations. She has experience as co-chair of the Hernando County Greek Festival, chair of leadership Hernando, volunteer coordinator of the Blueberry Festival in Brooksville, and a founding member of Sons and Daughters of Italy Una Famiglia Lodge #2882. She was also a service unit manager for the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida. More recently, she served as a bookkeeper at Rivera’s Flooring, Kitchens, and More and the branch manager at Spherion Staffing, both based in Brooksville.

Now, she assumes the leadership of Brooksville Main Street, described in a mission statement as a nonprofit dedicated to making Brooksville the best version of itself, and that is exactly what Triconi aims to do.

“When I go shopping here, it’s like I’ve stepped into another world. It has that classic small-town feel, so beautiful,” she said. “I never want Brooksville to be seen as a sleepy little town.”

Aside from knowledge of and immense love for the community of Brooksville, Triconi also brings to the table extensive experience with the Main Street program. She spent four years in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, while serving as the executive director for Intown Concord, producing events and programs that encouraged economic vitality in downtown Concord, NH.
She has accrued more than 20 years of experience in the operations, marketing, accounting, and non-profit sectors. She has assumed operational accountability in strategic planning, budgets, financial management and employee development.

In her new role, Triconi hopes to bring additional color and vitality to the Brooksville cityscape.
“When I go to events like our Christmas on Main Street, I see exactly what I want to see in Brooksville events,” she said. “More pomp and circumstance. I like events that are over the top, with a lot of color.”

Aside from holiday festivities such as Christmas on Main, Triconi hopes to continue and enhance a number of community events and programs, such as the multitude of live concerts and music performances that BMS hosts, art installations, exhibits, art and wine strolls and socials such as Hernando Untapped, and others.

“We want to plan events that are for all ages—something for everyone—that will draw people downtown,” she said. “Things that will encourage people to stroll the city day and night. The streets don’t close at 5 p.m.”

Triconi also wants to preserve the past, present and future of Brooksville by making meaningful connections between businesses and nonprofits and better connecting the people, businesses and community groups of Brooksville and Spring Hill, while at the same time continuing the carriage rides, tours, reenactments, and other happenings that preserve and honor the history of Brooksville. “These programs give people a deeper appreciation of Brooksville,” she said.

Triconi says that she will always strive to keep her city a beautiful place to visit. She stated, “We need to promote Clean Up Brooksville and other efforts to beautify our neighborhood and we need more volunteers in all areas of the community.”

In assuming her role as executive director of Brooksville Main Street, Triconi succeeds Natalie Kahler, who, during her tenure at BMS, established a number of landmark programs for the community. “She did a great job, and hers are big shoes to fill,” she said. “But I wish to expand upon her work.” She encourages everyone in the community in her mission to make Brooksville the best version of itself. “Let us ask ourselves, ‘What can we do for Brooksville?'” she declared. “Let’s bring Brooksville together and keep ’em downtown.”
