Annual Pi Day Celebration

What is the significance of Pi Day, March 14? The number pi, according to NASA, also written π or 3.14, is a science and mathematical concept that revolves around the fact that, regardless of the size of a circle, the ratio of a circle’s circumference (the distance around it) to its diameter (the distance across it) always equals pi.

Here in Hernando County, Pi Day has taken on a whole new, exceptional meaning–as around these parts, March 14 is a day for giving. Smokin’ Oak Wood Fired Pizza and Taproom, 13180 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville, announces its second annual Pi Day fund-raising celebration.

“Join us for a delicious celebration on March 14th!” said Rod Scott, CPC, CC, Smokin’ Oak Wood Fired Pizza and Taproom franchise owner. “On 3/14, we’re turning Pi Day into a pizza party with a purpose at Smokin’ Oak Pizza! Indulge in our mouth-watering pizzas for just $3.14 each and help us support the incredible work of K9 Partners for Patriots, Inc. Donations are requested when you place your order.”

Last year’s Pi Day celebration at Smokin’ Oak raised $1,300 for K9 Partners for Patriots. This nonprofit organization helps veterans and animals in need—ensuring that they, in turn, will get a more significant piece of the ‘Pi.’ K9 Partners for Patriots is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization devoted to ending veteran suicide with the help of rescue dogs. Based at 15322 Aviation Loop Dr., Brooksville, K9 Partners for Patriots enlists trained canines to prevent veteran suicide.

K9 Partners for Patriots, Inc. invites the community to join them in creating a community of hope, healing, and renewed purpose for those who have bravely served our nation,” reads the website at https://k9partnersforpatriots.com/.

Mary Peter, CMDT | CYNX-L, Founder/Executive Director of Training Operations of K9 Partners for Patriots, is deeply grateful that her agency has been named the recipient of the Pi Day fund-raiser.

“We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve been chosen again as the beneficiary of Smokin’ Oak Pizza’s Pi Day fundraiser for K9 Partners for Patriots, marking their second annual event!” said Peter. “Every donation directly supports our veterans and service dogs through specialized training programs. Smokin’ Oak Pizza has been a valued community member since its inception, and we’re incredibly thankful for their ongoing support. Their pizzas are delicious, and their staff is amicable and welcoming. Join us in enjoying some great food while making a difference in the lives of both veterans and rescue dogs.”

By promoting his Pi Day fund-raiser, Scott aims to create a fun and tasty way to give back to those who gave all for our nation.

“But that’s not all—we’re not just serving up slices, we’re serving up smiles!” said Scott. “Spread the word by sharing this event with your friends and family on Facebook. Let’s make this Pi Day celebration one to remember, filled with good food, great company, and even greater impact!”
This is a deeply personal cause for Scott, who is a proud veteran.

“As a wounded warrior and a 32-year Army veteran, it’s important for me to give back to our community to people that care for our veterans,” said Scott. “K9 Partners for Patriots provides service animals for our wounded veterans at no cost to the veteran. That’s why we chose them as our non-profit organization this year! Please come support us next week. Since our pizzas are only $3.14 each, we ask for a matching donation to their charity!”
