Hernando County will receive more than $300,000 to help its ongoing recovery from Hurricane Idalia. On Aug. 30, Hurricane Idalia made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend area, bringing 125-mph winds that impacted cattle, poultry and a range of other crop operations.
On March 7, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that the County would receive $350 million to help underwrite the costs of debris removal, infrastructure repairs and beach renourishment, among others.
Hernando County Director of Emergency Management (EMS) David DeCarlo said that the funds will be used for beach renourishment and non-Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) eligible debris removal projects.
The funds represent Hernando County’s share of $50 million recently awarded through the Florida Division of Emergency Management’s Hurricane Recovery Grant Program.
Hernando was one of 10 Florida counties to receive the funding.
