As the season begins to wind down in prep baseball in the state of Florida, Springstead has continued to show its dominance and has locked up the No. 1 seed in Class 6A, District 6.

The Eagles, with a spotless district record at 10-0, have locked up the No. 1 seed in Class 6A, District 6. Springstead is currently 18-2 on the season and the team’s only two losses this season have come at the hands of Mitchell in the Farm Bureau Classic championship game and rival Hernando. Other than that, Springstead has been the class of the district.

Springstead still has four games left in the regular season and still have to face Nature Coast Technical along with Hernando, Central and Land O’ Lakes Sunlake. The Eagles have had a stellar season hitting the baseball and senior Jiovel Lantigua leads the charge at the plate. The left-handed batter has belted eight home runs this season, with the rest of the team compiling three homers.

Hernando is playing some of its best softball of the regular season here as the 2019 campaign winds down to a close. The Leopards (22-2, 12-0) have positioned themselves to finish No. 1 in Class 5A, District 7 ahead of Nature Coast and New Port Richey Gulf. With Hernando playing stellar down the stretch, it would be an upset if Hernando didn’t end up winning the district championship.

Amongst those playing well down the stretch for the Leopards is senior Ali Shenefield, who has starred at the plate and on the mound. Galhouse has compiled an impressive record of 20-2 and has struck out an astounding 288 batters and has a 0.56 earned run average.

Springstead football announces fall 2019 schedule

Spring prep football is right around the corner, as teams will start non-contact practices on April 22nd (Monday) and most teams have their varsity schedules set in stone heading into the end of the school year.

One of those teams in Hernando who has finalized its schedule is Springstead, as they released their slate of games via Twitter. The Eagles’ schedule is highlighted with matchups against Groveland South Lake, Nature Coast and Crystal River.

Springstead, which went 7-3 in 2018, gets to keep its traditional slate of games against Hernando County opponents and will be in a new district this fall, which includes Lake Minneola, Dade City Pasco and Lecanto. For the spring game, the Eagles will face Dunnellon and for the preseason classic, Springstead matches up against Inverness Citrus.
