Marlene Jane Christie of Spring Hill died May 3, 2024, at about 7:45 pm. She was 86 years old. Her parents were the late Raymond McClelland and Mary Catherine McClelland of Lincoln Park, Michigan. Mrs. Christie moved to this area from Plymouth, Michigan in 1998.
Although born with a congenital heart condition, Marlene never allowed it to hold her back. She was one of the very first patients to undergo open heart surgery to correct her heart valve defect. Marlene went through nurses training at Deaconess Hospital in Detroit Michigan and later received her undergraduate degree from Schoolcraft College in Livonia Michigan. Later she underwent experimental heart surgeries which contributed to a number of medical studies and research findings.
Mrs. Christie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ronald Christie; her brother George McClelland of Norfolk, Virginia and her younger sister, Kay McClelland-Haller of Trenton, Michigan. Survivors include her older sister Maryann Newton, her sons Steve and Scott and daughters Julie and Melanie; grandchildren Scott, Jason, Kento, Alex, Eleanor, Kimberly, Christie, and great granddaughter Mila.
She enjoyed roller skating, travel, singing and volunteering for various causes. Arrangements are made by National Cremation. A memorial service will be held Monday, 13 May 2024 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 2301 Deltona Blvd., Spring Hill, FL 34606 at 11:00 am, followed by a fellowship gathering in honor and celebration of her life in the Magnolia Room at Timber Pines Country Club in Spring Hill.
