On 05-03-19 just after 2:30 a.m., Deputy Jeff McDougal was dispatched to a 9-1-1 Hang Up in the Ridge Manor area. The address is being withheld per FS 365.171 (12).
The 9-1-1 call (hang up) originated from a cell phone, therefore McDougal responded to the area where the phone was mapping. Upon arrival in the area, McDougal observed a residence with the lights on, so he made his way there.
Just as McDougal was about to knock on the door, an elderly female came running out of the house. The female was extremely frantic, stating that her son “would not wake up” and needed help.
McDougal immediately requested that Fire/Rescue be dispatched to his location. He then proceeded inside to assess the situation.
Once inside, McDougal located an adult male who was not conscious, not breathing, and without a pulse.
Deputy McDougal immediately repositioned the male (patient) and began administering CPR. Within just a few minutes, Deputy Mark Kay arrived on scene and assisted with CPR.
Just prior to the arrival of Fire/Rescue, the deputies were able to reestablish a pulse, at which time the patient began taking breaths.
Fire/Rescue arrived and took over care of the patient and transported the patient to the hospital.
By the time the patient arrived at the hospital, he had a strong blood pressure and pulse. The patient is expected to make a full recovery.
The paramedics and the Emergency Department physician both credited the deputies for saving the patient’s life.
