The Fourth of July comes early Saturday, June 29, as the Hernando Symphony Brass performs free of charge at the Nature Coast Botanical Gardens, 1489 Parker Ave., Spring Hill, from 10 a.m. to noon. Chairs will be provided for this exceptional performance.

The Hernando Symphony Brass is an offshoot of the Hernando Symphony Orchestra. The Hernando Symphony Orchestra, formed in 1982 with 13 musicians, celebrated its 41st season in 2023-2024—and is now looking forward to a busy 2024-2025 season, to launch officially in December. The mission of the HSO is to promote community interest in music of high standards, provide musicians of all ages an opportunity to perform in a symphony orchestra, and provide scholarship funds to promote string education in Hernando County. Offering musical programs aimed at audiences of all ages, this orchestra consists of dedicated musicians who volunteer their time and talents to make the Hernando Symphony a premier pop orchestra.

The orchestra performs regular season concerts in December, February, and April, in addition to special concerts that occur throughout the year. Ticket sales and contributions help support Mission Activities.

One of the special supplemental performances that some HSO members stage throughout the year comes in the divine form of the Hernando Symphony Brass free concert series. “This is part of our Hernando Symphony Brass monthly free concerts at the gardens,” said Michele DiLuzio, HSO conductor and Symphony Brass conductor/performer. “Since it is close to July 4 we will incorporate some patriotic music into our performance, just like we did at our recent Memorial Day concert.”

From 1776 to the present day, Americans have celebrated the grand tradition of Independence Day. A vital, most joyful component of any patriotic celebration is the outdoor concert, a festive event at which talented musicians perform a star-spangled ode to our nation and its heritage. In the case of the Hernando Symphony Brass performance, the party starts early—and in an outwardly ethereal and purely natural setting.

The brass band will perform in the gazebo and covered picnic area in the heart of the gardens amid an exuberant, beautiful display of plants and flowers. This brilliant display of sights and sounds makes for the ultimate multisensory experience.

“One of the guests who attended our free concert at the gardens Memorial Day weekend told us these free monthly concerts in the gardens are a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning,” said DiLuzio. “We also have many visitors who tell us how nice it is to walk through the gardens while listening to live music.”

In other HSO news, DiLuzio announces that the Hernando Symphony Orchestra has several openings in the orchestra. Those interested in joining this talented group of volunteer musicians should contact Michele DiLuzio at [email protected].
