Per Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis, in the early morning hours of Aug. 4, HCSO deputies responded to a call at 26421 Dallas Drive near Spring Lake Highway, just north of the Pasco-Hernando county line, which resulted in shots being fired.
Around 4 a.m. HCSO received a call providing specific details about two wanted individuals from Pasco or Citrus attempting to sell guns at the Dallas Drive address. Deputies responded to the location and not long after that, between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., an individual on scene shot at the deputies. The two deputies on scene were in full uniform and they did return fire. The individual, a white male, was hit. Deputies did not see the other wanted individual.
Both deputies are okay and HCSO has contacted the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The deputies will be placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
Sheriff Nienhuis said that last month, HCSO had to respond to this address due to a drug deal that went bad. The incident resulted in a kidnapping that ended up in Pasco County, where shots were fired.
Nienhuis said information regarding the shooter’s identity and condition will be released pending confirmation.
