People Helping People is determined to Strike Out Hunger–by way of a charity bowling tournament that is both fun and fundamental in purpose!
PHP is Striking Out Hunger will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Bowlero Spring Hill, 3447 Commercial Way.
“This is our first Striking Out event and we’re pretty excited about it,” said Kendra Kenney, executive director of People Helping People. “Our board members, Bev Russo and Maureen Soliman, had heard about another fundraiser like this. We know the people who support PHP are good-hearted, joyful people and will love this opportunity to support our cause of alleviating hunger in Hernando County while having fun at the same time.”
People Helping People’s mission is to end hunger in Hernando County by breaking the cycle of poverty among the people served. Besides providing food, PHP will link people to benefits, education, training, and resources, empowering them to help themselves become productive members of Hernando County.
Kenney sees Striking Out Hunger as the ultimate ‘fun fund-raiser.’ “Each team of four players will have its own lane, with rental shoes included. We hope the teams use it as an opportunity to create a unique creative name for their team,” she said. “There will be a prize for the highest team score and highest individual score. Our presenting sponsor is Simply Healthcare but there are still other sponsorship opportunities.”

Fundraisers such as this one, said Kenney, are important to a non-profit like People Helping People. “The money raised helps to support our programs in which we provide food for all populations from children, low-income individuals and families, the homeless, and seniors,” she said. “We also provide healthcare to the uninsured and showers for the homeless. If it’s a service we can’t directly provide, we work on finding the resource that can. The more funds we receive, the more we are able to help those in need of assistance in our county – a number that continues to grow.”
Kenney invites the Hernando community to come out and strike out hunger on Sept. 21. “We are so grateful for the support the Hernando County community continues to show us,” she said. “On Saturday afternoon, 9/21, will give all a chance to have fun and continue or even begin to help us help those in need.”
