Live Oak Theatre’s Ely Walters Invited to Return to New York for a Second Time Within a Six-Month Period

Brooksville, Florida (July 16, 2019) – Live Oak Theatre is proud to announce that Ely Walters, age 16, was invited to return to New York for a second time and was honored with performing on stage at Carnegie Hall. Ely previously performed at Radio City Music Hall opening the Christmas spectacular for the Rockettes. He was immediately invited to return as part of Camp Broadway. This time he was asked to perform with the New York Pops Orchestra in Carnegie Hall for their 36th birthday gala along with 39 other children. The performance was a tribute to the contributions of Cyndi Lauper. Camp Broadway’s trained Broadway professionals taught vocals and choreography to the group to perform “Raise You Up” at the gala. The song was taken from Cyndi Lauper’s six-time Tony winning British musical, Kinky Boots.

During Camp Broadway Ely made an impression and landed the first solo on the first day, later performing it for Ms. Lauper at her request. This further enabled Ely to perform next to legends in music such as Lena Hall, Ingrid Michaelson, and Stark Sands. Ely is a member of the Live Oak Conservatory as a vocal and dance student and Live Oak Theatre’s repertory company. He recently performed as Joseph in Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and as Jesus in Godspell. He also appeared in a film produced by Live Oak’s award-winning film company, Root and Branch Films, and actively promotes the benefits of Live Oak as a community theater. While maintaining an A average, Ely also attends church, volunteers in the community and spends time with family and friends.
