Giving to Locks of Love

Locks of Love is a charity that provides wigs for Canadian and American financially disadvantaged children who have lost their hair due to medical conditions or medical treatments.  The program is free of charge. They accept donations of ponytails that are at least 10 inches tip to tip according to their website.

There are several local salons/barbers who participate in the Locks of Love program and will handle mailing the ponytail donation. Otherwise you can have your favorite salon cut the hair in a ponytail and follow the directions to mail the donation to Locks of Love yourself.

Julie Catherine Maglio, who is 10 years old, decided that she wanted to donate her hair to Locks of Love. We checked locally and found Mr. and Ms. Salon participates in the Locks of Love program. We only paid for the haircut and the salon handled mailing the hair to Locks of Love.

Janie Wiley of Mr. and Ms. Salon explained that the Locks of Love program is close to her heart. She shared her story of how when she had cancer several years ago, her family members supported her by growing out their hair and donating to Locks of Love. She was deeply moved by the gesture.
