On Friday, Hernando High School held a signing ceremony for a pair of players on their girls’ soccer team. That morning, Annabelle Chamberlain and Skyla McCorts officially filled out their letters of intent to play for Pasco-Hernando State College next season.

The duo of Leopards athletes have been starters for the Purple and Gold for the last four years and are captains to boot. The seniors have led their current team to a 4-2 start to their season, and they have outscored opponents 29-2 in their victories.

Hernando High’s Girls Soccer Head Coach David Schrader was effusive in his praise for his players in a message to the Hernando Sun on Tuesday. “Annabelle is a very accomplished student who maintains her high grades, attendance, and esteemed leadership,” said Coach Shrader. “Skyla is a positive leader on and off the field while being an excellent student and is in her second year of perfect attendance in the soccer program.”

“Both have honed their soccer skills through dedicated work that goes beyond team practices,” continued Coach Shrader. “They maintain a good friendship, do volunteer work in the community, show team leadership, and have exemplified their self-discipline to be tremendous citizens later in life.”

The head coach also credited assistant coach Carlos Oliveros for helping train and develop Hernando’s talented seniors. The instructor has been an “asset” and he, Shrader, and the seniors will look to lead their crew to a successful second half of the season with the Citrus Hurricanes on deck on December 2nd.

Once they step onto campus to play for the Bobcats next season, Chamberlain and McCorts will join former Leopards Serena Huber and Jackie Cuevas as teammates. “Congratulations to these two ladies on their opportunity to continue their soccer career,” Shrader said.
