On Monday, Jan. 27 at approximately 6:25 a.m., Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Philatelic Drive in Spring Hill in reference to a shooting.
A witness living at the residence said that Bryan Guthrie, age 45 and his wife, Pattie Guthrie were initially involved in an argument. As the witness was attempting to flee the home, she heard a single gunshot. The witness ran back inside the residence, where she observed Pattie Guthrie lying on the floor, bleeding.
After the witness fled the home, she eventually called 9-1-1.
A short time later, deputies arrived on the scene and forced entry into the home. Deputies located Pattie Guthrie lying on the floor just outside of the master bedroom. Deputies noted she had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Deputies then located Bryan Guthrie lying on the floor of the master bedroom in proximity to a handgun. He had also sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The Sheriff’s Office preliminary investigation reveals the couple’s argument escalated to the point of Bryan Guthrie producing a handgun and shooting his wife. The suspect then utilized the same handgun to take his own life.
