Field Trip Leader: Brian Pinson, Crews Lake Wilderness Preserve Site Supervisor, Pasco County Parks and Recreation
Crews Lake Wilderness Park covers 113 acres along the west shore of Crews Lake. The lake is the headwaters of the Pithlachascotee River that flows into the Gulf of Mexico 25 miles downstream. This fieldtrip tours the ecosystems of the park and visits recent burn zones to see the fire’s effects and how fire is used to maintain the landscape.
Logistics: Meet at the boat ramp, wear good walking, closed toed shoes, and sunscreen. Also bring a hat, water and bug repellant.
Directions: From State Rd 52, just east of the Suncoast (589), go north on Shady Hills Rd. 2.9 miles to Lenway Rd. Proceed to the entrance to the park and continue to the parking area near the lake and boat ramp.
