On February 25, 2025, Florida State Senator Blaise Ingoglia (R-Spring Hill) and Representative Tiffany Esposito (R-Fort Myers) filed SB 1128 and HB (to be determined), bills related to mandating 48 hour approval of building permits in hurricane affected areas so communities can rebuild quickly.
“After a natural disaster hits it’s important that homeowners have all the tools necessary to rebuild as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, local governments are taking too long to issue building permits in these hard hit areas causing months long delays in some cases. It’s time we strip away the barriers and unnecessary regulations so communities can rebuild with maximum efficiency and speed. Let’s gets government out of the way and supercharge recovery efforts,” Sen. Blaise Ingoglia said.
“Floridians deserve homes, not hurdles. This bill cuts delays in single-family home construction, ensuring local governments don’t stall the process. Time is money, and unnecessary bureaucratic delays drive up costs for hardworking families.
“By streamlining approvals and preventing permit expirations before new building codes take effect, we can make it easier and faster to build the housing Florida desperately needs. At a time when affordability is a top concern, this common-sense reform puts families first and government inefficiency in the rearview mirror,” said Rep. Tiffany Esposito.
