On Saturday, families impacted by Alzheimer’s and other dementia gathered at a local senior living facility in Brooksville for the second annual Hernando County Alzheimer’s Walk.
The event was organized as part of The Longest Day initiative through the local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Participants walked for loved ones living and lost to a disease impacting 11 percent of Hernando County seniors. While there is no cure for Alzheimer’s, new treatments that slow the progression of the disease in the early stages have given hope.
Funds raised will go to care, support and research initiatives through the Alzheimer’s Association Florida Gulf Coast Chapter. Organizers have raised more than $12,000 to date with a goal of $15,000. Donations are still being accepted at AlzFla.org/HernandoAlzWalk.
