(Brooksville, FL) On October 22, 2019, the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners adopted an ordinance amendment to Chapter 10, Article II and Chapter 23, Article IV to update standards for tree permit exemptions. These updates were required to comply with the recent changes to the Florida Statutes made by the Legislation during the past Legislative session.

The updates to this ordinance include exemptions from permitting if residential property owners obtain documentation that the tree in question presents a danger to persons or property. Documentation must be provided from an arborist certified by the International Society of Arboriculture or a Florida Licensed Landscape Architect. Residential property owners will not be required to replant a tree that was pruned, trimmed or removed in accordance with this amended ordinance.

Contact the Hernando County Zoning Department at (352) 754-4050 or [email protected] for any questions regarding these changes.
