The county's first go-kart park opened in 1973 by Jimmy Rodgers and family. The park was located on Weatherly Rd off of Mondon Hill Rd. The charge for 10 minutes around the track was just a dollar. This track is no longer open, but another track was established in Hernando County located off of Countyline Rd, now known as Springleton Fun Park.

The Springleton track and amusement park has gone through a number of owners in recent years. In 2010 it was purchased by Tedd Juanis and his son-in-law Brian Chambe. At that time it was known as Fun and Wheels. In 2014, the Sessa family acquired the park who have been involved in several major entertainment venues in the area.

The new owners Dominic Spazioso and Robert Grange are now taking on the challenge of operating and revamping the park which has been an entertainment fixture for many years. They purchased the park 7 months ago.

“I get people remembering coming here as a kid,” Spazioso said.

“It’s a work in progress, we have come along way in the seven months,” Dominic Spazioso said. “We’ll slowly but surely get there, we are in process of trying to obtain some smaller kids go-karts, so the little ones can drive them.”

Taking over the park hasn’t been easy for these new owners, but their own children give them inspiration to keep up the renovations and add new features.

18 hole putt-putt course will be undergoing a new look.

Activities include an arcade, an 18 hole putt-putt course, a bounce house for the little ones and a water play area for cooling off during those hot summer afternoons.

“We just installed the water area; a water slide, water play area and misting stations, we also have a picnic area where you are able to bring your own food and cooler to have your own picnic,” Dominic's wife Theresa said.

The park also has a party package for birthdays and other occasions for children and adults. However the main attraction of course is the go-karts. “The kids love it,” Matthew Knapp said. Knapp maintains the track and handles maintenance at Springleton. Sit back and drive a Honda Eagle and Double Eagle cart, steering among a winding and curving track going up to 25 miles an hour. Challenge your family member or your friends to cross first over the finish line.

“I think we are doing the right thing and on the right path,” Dominic Spazioso said.

You don’t have to be a kid to attend this park and enjoy it; you just have to be young at heart.

The park is open Monday – Thursday 11am - 10pm, Friday & Saturday 11am - 1am and Sunday 11am - 6pm.
