The month of October marks the 20th Anniversary of the Little Red Schoolhouse, and they are having a 20 percent off sale to celebrate. Prior to becoming the bookstore it is today, it was the original Spring Hill Library Branch before the building of its current location was constructed.

The location served as the library the first 9 years and has only been a bookstore for the past 11 years.

The history of the building can be traced back to 1967 when the Deltona Corporation used it as a sales office. No longer used as a library, it is now a used bookstore completely run by volunteers, with all proceeds going back into the Hernando County Public Library system. From the outside the barn red building looks like it has been there forever, complete with a bell tower on top.

As you step through the front door the aroma of books fills the air, as if you are stepping into a library. However, unlike the requirement of returning a book from the library, any treasures you find here never have to be returned.

Although the bookstore only consists of two rooms there is no shortage of reading options. The books sold are gently used and the variety is vast. The 20th anniversary sale will give you 20 percent off selected items, but the savings don’t stop there.

For $5 you can fill a bag from the “reading room”, as well as .50 cent paperbacks, $1 DVD’s, and half price books from the “check-out room.”

Since every dollar goes back into the community, and the prices are amazing, the Little Red Schoolhouse is by far better than any of the big, overpriced, large chain bookstores out there. Their selection includes travel, history, and cooking just to name a few. They offer a large selection of educational books, making it an ideal place for homeschool parents looking for education supplies at a good price.

So come on down and help them celebrate 20 wonderful years. You can find them on Facebook, on the Hernando County Public Library page, or you can reach them by phone 352-684-0660. The schoolhouse is open 6 days a week, closed on Sunday. Hours are Monday and Thursday 1-4, Tuesday and Wednesday 10-5, Friday 10-3, and Saturday 10-1. The Little Red Schoolhouse is located at 1208 Kenlake Ave Spring Hill, FL 34606, on the same property as the Lake House.
