Attention Students! How to survive the school year

August 17, 2017 - 09:35

Entering 9th Grade in Sarasota, Dom Maglio, advises fellow students on the upcoming school year. Dom enjoys fishing and plays many different sports in his free time.

Do Assignments Early- Whenever the opportunity to do homework in advance or on the weekend arises, take it. Getting in a routine of working ahead can prevent worry and future procrastination.

Do homework, study less- Yes, you read that right. Do homework, study less. But don’t just do homework, engross yourself in it. If you spend time to just think about what you are working on, there’s no need to learn everything over again when studying. Just study to refresh your memory on the material.

Utilize Friends- Forget workbooks, friends may be the most powerful study tool you have. They can help you remember material in different ways. If you’re having trouble with homework simply ask a friend for help. Beyond your peers, siblings and older students are also an immense assistance. Since they have already taken the class they can warn and prepare you for tests. Every once in awhile you can also ask your teacher for help on test problems. Most of the time, they will tell you exactly how to clarify the problem.

Eat and Sleep- I know you’ve been told this many times, but I can’t stress enough the importance of proper sleep. The more sleep you get, the more energy you will have. Eating is also a major part of your day. To prevent stress and unnecessary pain, never skip breakfast.

Be organized- To get good grades, you need to be organized. The two come hand in hand. Have a spot at home to work on homework without distractions. This can be your little office space with supplies easily accessible. Never cram papers into your backpack and try to discard unneeded items often. Keep a mental track of time and make an effort to limit or eliminate temptations and distractions that are holding you back.

Don’t Stress, Have Fun- Most importantly, enjoy every single school day. You’re only a student for so many years. The school year is too short to stress so live up your youth, get great grades, and have fun.
