Anew Mediterranean cafe Steam 33 has opened across from the courthouse in downtown Brooksville. It is located in the Jennings building which has been home to a number of restaurants in the recent past.
Our waiter gave us a business card of the owner, since it was our first time visiting the restaurant. It said owner Rodrigo Villa-Lobos. We asked where Rodrigo was and he stopped by our table to talk. It is nice to visit small businesses where the proprietor is on premises and can correct any issues.
The dining room is good sized and they have a nice looking bar. The wait staff is friendly. The service is on the slower side, but they just opened and are still figuring things out.
The tomato basil soup is has a nice flavor with a mild cheese flavor and lemon and balsamic vinegar drizzled on top. It is warming for a cold evening. We tried a couple of their Muffaletta sandwiches.
Their muffaletta sandwich is served on a round flat piece of bread with a generous amount of deli meat and an olive salad. The Frutti di Mare over linguine came with shrimp, salmon, scallops, and tomatoes.
Italian music was playing in the background as we ate. They have a small dinner menu which our waiter said they are planning to expand. They have an extensive breakfast, lunch, and brunch menu.
The fare was unique and the portions were European sized, which is slightly smaller than American portions. Steam 33 is an interesting addition to the local dining scene.)
