June 26, 2017 - 13:27

Minister David Haber with affordable housing resident whose sign reads "Thank you Brooksville Universal Church for low cost housing."

The Brooksville Universal Church members and volunteers run an affordable housing program in Hernando County. The program is funded by the church itself and is headed by Minister David Haber.

Minister Haber says the church has been providing Affordable Housing to Hernando County for more than 2 years and is in various stages of providing more.
Currently there are 30 individuals in the program and 14 homes. Rent starts at $400 per month for one of their homes. Homes are located in the Brooksville area and there is one unit in Pasco. Minister Haber says that there is usually a waiting list for the units.

According to Minister Haber, they provide affordable housing for veterans, handicapped as well as working people. The homes for the handicapped have special modifications.
They have about a half dozen volunteers who search for potential properties to be included in the program and another half dozen who help with rehabilitation says Minister Haber.
The church holds bi-monthly meetings for affordable housing in Hernando County and there is a monthly religious service.
