The Glen Lakes community through Glen Lakes Veterans and Friends, Inc. (GLVF) awarded grants to numerous local veteran organizations recently and presented checks to representatives of these organizations. The following veterans’ groups were recipients:
VFW Post 10209 – $5,500
Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 158 (Crystal River) – $ 5,250
Florida Veterans Nursing Home – Five computers valued at a total of $1,700
American Legion Post 186 -$6,360.00
Marine Corp Detachment 1002 – $4,900
DAV Chapter 67 – $7,000
The majority of these funds were raised at the Glen Lakes Veterans and Friends annual Golf Outing held each year on Veterans’ Day. Before an organization receives money, they are thoroughly vetted by the members of GLVF. All of the funds raised stay in the area. Because GLVF is made up entirely of volunteers, with no overhead, 100% of the money goes to these causes.
Anyone interested in helping our veterans and honoring their service is welcome to join. You do not have to be a resident of Glen Lakes or a veteran. Over the past four years, Glen Lakes Veterans and Friends have raised more than $126,000 to help local veterans.
