Hernando County Utilities Water Awareness

Hernando County residents are invited to attend “Save Water! Save Money!” on Friday, January 20, 2017, at 10am – 12 noon at the new Hernando County Utilities Administration Building, 15365 Cortez Blvd, Brooksville, FL 34613.
Learn water conservation tips for your home from Josh Madden, Environmental Scientist, Southwest Florida Water Management District. Also, Ivana Kajtezovic of Tampa Bay Water will present how the Tampa Bay area supplies water to their residents. Hernando Weight loss
challenge begins January

The Great Hernando Weight Loss Challenge will take place from Jan. 14 until March 25. The goal of the community initiative is for 1,000 residents and visitors, working in teams of 10, to each lose 10 pounds in 10 weeks, for a collective community weight loss of 10,000 pounds.
The kickoff event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Hernando County Mining Association Enrichment Center at 800 John Gary Grubbs Blvd., Brooksville, a different location than previously announced. A $500 award will be given to the participant who loses the most weight. Awards will also be given to the team that loses the most weight and to the team with the most creative name. The Awards Celebration Party will take place at the Anderson Snow Park Pavilion on Saturday, April 8, 2017. The cost to participate is $10 per person. Book Drive to benefit
People Helping People

UUCIP Is conducting a Book Drive to support People Helping People from Jan. 1 through March 31, 2017.
The Unitarian Universalist Church in the Pines in Weeki Wachee is asking for your unwanted books to help People Helping People (PHP) better serve the under-employed and homeless of Hernando County.
The PHP constituents who are taking PHP job-training classes would appreciate practical and reference books such as how to compose a business letter, various computer skills for dummies (Word, spreadsheets, PageMaker, PowerPoint, Excel, etc), cookbooks, and textbooks at any level in math and English. All donations are tax-deductible.
If you have such books lying around (or you find something similar on your travels), please set them aside for this project which runs from January 1 through March 31. For more information or to schedule a pick-up call 352-600-9555.

Start your week with the Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce’s Business To Business Networking. The group will meet every Monday morning, beginning at 7:00am to 9:30am. The group provides continental breakfast and networking opportunities.

The Suncoast Credit Union is awarding three $2,000 scholarship awards to high school seniors in Hernando County through the Hernando County Education Foundation. Greeters, processors, tax preparers and quality review volunteers appreciate how their specific role contributes to these families’ financial stability.
