Government workers are servants for the people. When congress requests pertinent information about a federal investigation all government officials have the obligation to assist the process in order to uncover the truth. “Taking the Fifth” obstructs and impedes congressional members from establishing accountability in the people’s government.

Thanksgiving: a state of mind

Giving thanks should be a daily deed. One of the current weaknesses in our culture is ungratefulness and taking what we have for granted. It is something that is blatantly apparent in the younger generations today as celebrities and the news media have molded their negative opinions of America and degraded values. Celebrities and media personalities have only been able to infiltrate these young minds because our foundation is folding. That foundation is the family unit.

Making good decisions takes knowledge and insight. These two traits increase with experience and age. There are a few toddlers that demonstrate maturity beyond their years. However, almost all of them have to be taught, usually by their parents, about the immediate and future consequences of their behavior. In order to accomplish this sacred responsibility, the authority figure has to take charge in almost all situations.

Student Editorial: Thoughts from the same mind

by Cameron Deam, 9th grade student

In present times, it seems as if the media is attempting to make everyone the same. We see this in ads, television and social media. In the past, individual mindsets led to changes in history. Because of individualism, great advances in science, math, history, and language took place. So why does the media want to diminish our individualism in society?

Letter to the Editor: Thank You Veterans

Veterans

Dear Veterans,

Thank you for your service! I am so thankful that you would risk your life for mine and many others. You had to give up your family to help protect our country. It makes me sick to see the Americans who step on the flag or even worse burn the flag. Also the people who kneeled for the national anthem. It is disgraceful to watch. The people who do that should be ashamed of themselves. The only thing that makes America great is having people willing to sacrifice everything to help protect our country. Thanks again for your service.

Patriotism for our America

by Caitlyn Deam, 10th grade student

The Avenue in the Rain by Frederick Childe Hassam 1917

Patriotism is defined as having respect, loyalty, a sense of dignity, pride, and most importantly, love towards your country. The United States of America is home to hundreds of millions of people, each with a unique cultural background. While we share different ancestors, ethnicities, and genetics, we all have one crucial factor in common; we all live in the United States of America. America is a country containing many immigrants and people who have come seeking a better life and more opportunity for themselves and their family.

With age there is opportunity for wisdom even in our culture

Throughout the modern western world youth is worshipped. They are perceived as carefree, smart and high-energy explorers of the world. The majority of them are praised for their naturally cute actions and ability to absorb incredible amounts of information. Letter to the Editor in Regards to Moton Elementary

Sir,

I just finished reading your story "Teachers at Moton express concern" and truly find the comments made by both Gus Guadagnino and Lori Romano to be incredulous.

For the Superintendent to say she had felt blindsided about the truth is perplexing. Dr. Romano started many of the issues at Moton by denying requests from 2 former Principals asking for additional resources. One Principal, Mark Griffith, was removed in March 2016 as part of an investigation that surely appears to have been a witch hunt.
