Florida Native Plant Society: Field Trip: Cypress Lakes Preserve

March 13 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Hosted by the Citrus Chapter, FNPS
Leader: Jim King

Join the Citrus Native Plant Society in a guided field trip with Jim King, past Conservation Land Manager for Hernando County. Cypress Lakes Preserve, one of Hernando County’s ESL properties, is a rich and diverse mixture of uplands and wetlands, and hosts uncommon wildflowers and shrubs, including a blue curl species that has reddish leaves, scrub olive, tarflower, and a large number of cypress trees. It contains 8 natural plant communities (including lakes, freshwater marsh, cypress swamp, bottom-land hardwoods, live oak hammocks, scrub, and sand-hills).

Join us at the preserve trailhead parking lot at the intersection of Ridge Manor Blvd. and Olancha Road. We will hike about 1.5 miles of trail. Wear hiking shoes and appropriate clothing, perhaps a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, insect repellent, and bring drinking water and snacks. Please RSVP with Ben at [email protected], or call or text 727-217-5971.
