Florida Native Plant Society Hernando County Strategic Plan: Community Engagement Session III

April 4 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Several members of our Chapter have been actively engaged in Hernando County’s Strategic Plan process—whether by attending the Community Engagement Session in February or providing input through the Community Feedback Survey.

You still can help! April 4 will be the last Community Engagement Session before a draft plan is presented in May. Please plan to attend. The facilitators will lead community members through review of the draft vision, objectives, and recommendations developed to date. If we want to see long-term commitments to native habitat protection, we must show up in numbers and make our voices heard.

It will be helpful to review the minutes from the February workshop.  To protect our native plant populations into the future, we will need to continue to endorse the revival of the Hernando County’s Environmentally Sensitive Lands (ESL) program and to promote participation in the Florida Forever and Rural and Family Lands protection programs. We will also need to pay attention to recommendations re: the Comprehensive Plan. It has also been suggested that a designated Urban Service Boundary would help constrain sprawl hence further fragmentation of natural areas.

During this session participants will:

  • Review input from the resident survey and community meetings to date.
  • Discuss and refine the draft vision, goals, objectives, and recommendations.
  • Test the degree of support or consensus for the vision, goals, objectives, and recommendation.
  • discuss priorities before the plan moves forward.
