40 Acre Brush Fire in the Area of US19 and Yellow Hammer Blvd

(Weeki Wachee, FL) at approximately 2:22p.m. 2/13/16, Hernando County Fire Rescue (HCFR) responded to the area of Commercial Way (U.S. Hwy 19) and Yellow Hammer Blvd for a reported brush fire. The area is heavily wooded with residential structures in the vicinity. The fire is located on both the east and west side of U.S. Hwy 19. U.S. Hwy 19 was closed from Knuckey Road north to the Hernando/Citrus County Line. US 19 has been reopened.

The fire was reported to be approximately forty (40) acres in size.

One structure was evacuated by rescue crews. There are no injuries to the public or fire crews reported. No structures caught fire.

On February 13th, the HCFR responded with the 12 units: 4 fire engines, 4 brush trucks, 1 rescue, 2 battalion chiefs and the departments’ assistant chief of operations in route. The Citrus County Fire Rescue and the Department of Forestry are also on scene.
