Joseph Burton “Aloysius” Peck, 80, passed away at his home on February 5, 2023 surrounded by family.
Born in Saratoga Springs, NY, Joe attended St. Peter’s Academy and Siena College where he graduated with a degree in Economics. He worked for the New York State Department of Criminal Justice in Albany, retiring as Chief of the Civil Identification Bureau after 32 years. He is a past president of the NY State Division of the International Association for Identification. He also served as editor of the Journal of Forensic Identification. Joe was an avid horse racing fan and proudly owned shares in several race horses. After retiring, Joe and his wife, Kathryn, moved to Florida in order to be closer to their daughter, Jo-Anne, and two grandchildren, settling in Spring Hill, FL. There he volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul Society Thrift Store for many years. Joe and Katie traveled regularly during retirement, visiting Ireland, Alaska, Mexico, and Russia among others. He also began studying Hebrew at the age of 75. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus as well as a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was also an active lifetime supporter of the Republican Party. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, daughter and son-in-law, son, Geoffrey, two grandchildren and his sister, Margaret. He is preceded in death by his mother and father.
