Lloyd Thomson, 79 of Spring Hill, Florida, will be fondly remembered as a fun, creative, kind, and hard working husband, father, grandfather and friend. He always had a joke ready to share and ready to give you a hard time. Hunting, fishing, traveling, woodworking, lawn care, spending time with friends and family is what Lloyd loved. He was an amazing husband, father and grandfather. God called on him to join loved ones in heaven after a courageous battle with cancer on October 20, 2024.
Lloyd was born in St Peter, Minnesota on January 5, 1945 to Helen and Ellis Thompson and spent his childhood there and is where he met the love of his life, his wife, Cindy (Vogel) Thompson in High School. They married July 8, 1967 and moved to Long Beach, California where he was stationed in the Navy. They then moved to Cannon Falls, Minnesota while Lloyd worked as an Air Traffic Controller in Farmington. In 1978 they moved to a wonderful hobby farm in Castle Rock, MN where they raised their two beautiful daughters, where many wonderful memories were made, especially with the horses. After his career as an air traffic controller, he worked in architecture and cabinet building. Also, for many years Lloyd enjoyed being a letter carrier in Northfield where he met many long time friends. After retirement, Lloyd & Cindy bought a lake home in Faribault, MN where they treasured time with their grandchildren on the water. A few years later they bought a home in Florida to retreat to in the winter, which became their full time residence. Where family was always welcome.
His military experience was an important part of his life that he was very proud of. Lloyd was in the Navy and served during the Vietnam war. This shaped his life in many ways as he truly served as a hero and endured many traumatic events as well as rewarding experiences and the great beauty of the world. He was an active part of many VA programs and care. One of his favorite veteran involvements was with K9 Patriots where he was matched with a wonderful service dog, Hope, that he trained and loved and was a great companion to him in many ways.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his infant son, Jon David Thompson; and parents, Helen and Ellis Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Cindy (Vogel) Thompson of Spring Hill Florida; daughters, Julie Noakes (Mark Cook) of Centerville, MN and Jennifer Valek (Jason Wood) of Lonsdale, MN; five grandchildren that were very dear to him, Ashley, Steven, Alexi, Jake, and Anikka; and Brother, Curtis Thompson (Carlin) of Gilbert, Arizona.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 31, 2024, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the mass at the church. A reception will follow the service at the church. A committal service followed by interment will be at 1:30 PM, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, following the reception.
