Peggy Joyce Jensen, age 83, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025, at the Hudson Valley Hospice House in Hyde Park, NY, with her family by her side after a prolonged illness. Born on March 31, 1941, in Cortland, NY, she was the daughter of Margaret Etta Bush and Chester Henry Schulze. Peggy was predeceased by her parents and siblings: Juanita Teeter (2009), Chester C. Schulze (2011).
Peggy grew up in Cortland and was a student of Nottingham High School in Syracuse, NY. She went on to become a successful businesswoman, owning Realty World Real Estate Office in Canton, NY. Peggy was known for her entrepreneurial spirit and her love of helping others find their homes. She was also a passionate bowler, once competing on Bowling for Dollars and achieving multiple 300 games, a rare accomplishment in the sport. When she moved to the Syracuse area she worked for many years with Metropolitan Insurance as their office manager.
In addition to her career, Peggy was known for her vibrant personality and love of people. She loved playing cards, spending time with her family, and pursuing her passion for real estate. Peggy also enjoyed a very social life, golf, line dancing and traveling, especially later in life, and cherished her time spent with her dogs—particularly her beloved Pekingese, Taffy, and her recent pugs, Maggie and Minnie.
Over the years, Peggy was a member of the Baptist and Methodist faiths. Peggy is survived by her four children: Darcy Jensen McCourt (husband Doug), and their children Erin and Evan; Timothy L. Jensen, and his son Cameron; Deborah Jensen Atkins (husband Tom), and their children Heide and Liam; and Michelle Jensen Young, and her children Nicholas Butler (wife Haley), and their children Mila, Brynlee, and Brody, as well as Nathaniel Butler, Colby, and Caleb Young.
She is also survived by her sister, Sharron R. Gentz, and several nephews and a niece: William, Steven, Daryle Gentz, and Cheryl Gentz.
Peggy is fondly remembered by her close friends, including Candace Rutledge and the Cloverleaf community in Brooksville, Florida, where she resided until she returned to Canton, NY where she had her fondest memories.
A private memorial service will be held at the time of her interment in McGraw, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Peggy’s memory to the Hudson Valley Hospice House, a cause that supported her during her final days.
Peggy’s legacy of love, warmth, and joy will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who knew her.
