Richie B’s Brick Oven Pizza is located on Mariner Boulevard just north of Northcliffe Boulevard in a small strip mall next to Suncoast Credit Union. It lists pizza and other menu items on the front window with large letters.
The owner is Richie B and he is an experienced restaurateur who didn’t find retirement all that much fun. Richie would rather be cooking up a pie and taking care of customers at his pizza place in Spring Hill.
We tried the Italian hero sandwich and a calzone with sausage. The hero had very fresh ingredients and it came with just the right amount of italian dressing. The bread was soft and fresh. The calzone came with a side of tomato sauce. The calzone was very good, it was both slightly salty and sweet and loaded with cheese.
As we were paying Richie B, he asked us why we were taking pictures of everything. We told him we were planning to write an article about his restaurant. He said we had to try a slice of pizza since this is his specialty. The slice was as good as advertised. It was thin crust and very light. We asked Richie B about the secret to his crust and he responded that he makes dough three times a day.
