Shortly after 9:30 PM on Thursday, October 5th, Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) responded to a shooting at the Spring Haven Apartments located on the West side of Mariner Boulevard, just North of County Line Road. The shooting occurred in a public area, between the clubhouse and pool. The victim, described as a female in her late teens, was struck in the face by the bullet. She is reported to be in stable condition and is expected to survive.
The suspect has been identified by witnesses as 17-year-old Christian Rakewon Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald is a black male, with black hair and brown eyes. He’s reported to be 5’08” tall and approximately 180 pounds. Sheriff Nienhuis said, “Because this was a shooting, and we have not located Mr. Fitzgerald yet, we’re going to have to assume that he is still armed, and that he is dangerous.”
Sheriff Nienhuis also stated that the victim and suspect know each other, and that this was not a random shooting. He further stated that there is a Juvenile Pickup Order for Fitzgerald on an unrelated charge. Sheriff Nienhuis went on to say that the goal of HCSO is to get the suspect into custody without incident.
“If there is anyone that is harboring Mr. Fitzgerald, they need to understand that they are not doing him any favors, they’re not doing themselves any favors, and of course, they are not helping the community,” said Sheriff Nienhuis.
Anyone with knowledge to Mr. Fitzgerald’s whereabouts are urged to contact the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. Citizens wishing to remain anonymous can call Crimestoppers at 866-990-8477. Crimestoppers callers may also be eligible for a cash reward up to $1000.00.
