Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Burglary and Grand Theft Suspect

On September 9 at 6:33 p.m., a deputy on proactive patrol along U.S. 19 noticed a vehicle that started to swerve as his patrol cruiser pulled up behind the driver. The deputy noted several people appeared to be moving around inside the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle proceeded to make a quick right turn into a nearby business. After pulling into the business, the driver then quickly exited the parking lot and once again headed north on U.S. 19. Due to the suspicious behavior the deputy performed a tag check and discovered the vehicle was reported stolen out of Jacksonville.

Missing girl found, authorities still looking for her killer

Nearly two years ago Laurel Nowell of Apache Junction, AZ contacted the Hernando County Sheriff's Office to report her former Hernando High School classmate and friend Tammy Jo Alexander missing. Nowell told the Sheriff's Office that Alexander went missing between 1977 and 1979.

Alexander's family never reported her as missing to the authorities. Alexander's stepsister, Sharen Nelsen confirmed that Alexander was missing, but the family never reported it.

Two arrested for MDMA (Ecstasy) Trafficking

On 07-19-16, Hernando County Vice and Narcotics detectives intercepted a package of MDMA, commonly referred to as ecstasy, which was being shipped to an address in Brooksville.

The package was addressed to Daniel Lucht, at his residence located at 965 Candlelight Boulevard, the Candlelight Apartments.

Upon inspecting the contents of the package, detectives located 201 pink tablets of MDMA shaped like dominos.

A controlled delivery of the package was performed.

Shortly after the package was delivered, Lucht's roommate, Zachery Brinski, arrived home.

4 Suspected in last week's Richloam Murder

In a press conference on July 20th, Sheriff Al Nienhuis reviewed the murder of Preston Talley of Gainesville. Sunday morning, July 17th, they received call from a citizen who found a man, naked and deceased in a vehicle in the Richloam forest area.

The forensics and crime analysis teams were brought in to conduct their investigations.

Former Hernando County Detention Deputy faces federal criminal charges for robbery and firearms offenses

Elizabeth Perkins (46) of Brooksville is being charged with bank robbery and related firearms offense, announced United States Attorney A. Lee Bentley, III earlier this month. Arrested on July 7th, Perkins could face a maximum penalty of life in federal prison if she is convicted on all counts.

Perkins was employed as a Hernando County detention deputy from August 2010 to September 2012.

From the Sheriff's Office: Detectives Conducting Death Investigation in Eastern Hernando County

At this time, Hernando County detectives are conducting a death investigation, wherein foul play is suspected. The location is in the Richloam Forest in eastern Hernando County.

The investigation is on-going and fluid, therefore details will be minimal at this time.

Ongoing efforts continue to positively identify the victim.

In addition to attempting to identify the deceased, detectives have been tirelessly following leads in an effort to determine what occurred and ensure justice is served.

Thousands of Dollars in Stolen Electricity Leads to Three Search Warrants

JUNE 22- Thousands of dollars in stolen electricity kept Hernando County Vice and Narcotics detectives busy with three separate search warrants over a 13 day period.

Working closely with representatives from Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative (WREC), detectives identified that in each case, power was being diverted (stolen), resulting in the execution of the search warrants.

The first search warrant was executed at 18303 Macek Road in Brooksville (Royal Highlands) on 06-08-16 at 9:30 a.m.

On 05-25-16, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office Vice and Narcotics Unit raided the home of local gang member, Jonathan Huff, who lives at 11404 Pike Avenue in Spring Hill. Huff is a self-proclaimed member of the Folk Nation, and was rising to the level of "treasurer" in his gang, prior to being arrested on numerous drug charges. Huff, who is a convicted felon, is no stranger to interactions with deputy sheriffs. In 2013, Huff was arrested for Possession with Intent to Distribute Oxycodone. He was arrested again in 2014 for Trafficking in Hydromorphone.

Search Warrant - 25318 Ash Street

On 04-22-16, detectives with the Hernando County Sheriff's Office Vice and Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant on an active marijuana grow operation located at 25318 Ash Street in Brooksville.

The search warrant was the result of a lengthy investigation where undercover Vice and Narcotics detectives received information from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office that the Ash Street residence was linked to their Operation named "Hydro Hustlers."

Search Warrant - 12156 Monarco Lane

On 04-21-16, detectives with the Hernando County Sheriff's Office Vice and Narcotics Unit, along with members of the SWAT team, executed a search warrant at 12156 Monarco Lane in Spring Hill, the residence of Paul Bodisch.

The search warrant was the result of a lengthy investigation where undercover Vice and Narcotics detectives were able to purchase controlled substances from Bodisch on several occasions.
