Arlene Wells began her art career in Saudi Arabia where her husband was employed by Aramco for five years. Connecting with others who were temporarily residing outside their home country and who were also professional artists, she engaged in private lessons and visited museums and galleries all over Europe and Asia during their extensive travels.
Upon returning to the States, she completed college courses in drawing, painting, graphic design, and illustration. She taught art basics to both adults and children for Seminole Community School for five years and also worked as an interior designer producing unique home décor items for clients.
Wells considers herself an expressionist. She communicates feeling through color making the color composition the primary focus of her work. She uses nature as a springboard for many of her pieces, playfully indulging the relationship between shape and color to produce a work apart from what we perceive as reality. The colors are harmonious and yet so deliciously energetic that they practically produce that involuntary salivation one gets before delighting the senses with something tart and tangy.
