The Weeki Wachee Anglers, Inc., a family-oriented fishing and social club, has partnered with Hernando County Parks and Recreation this year to host the 2nd Annual Kids' Fishing Extravaganza. This is a free, one-day clinic sponsored by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to educate kids from ages 5 to 15 about the vulnerability of Florida's marine ecosystems, as well as to teach fundamental saltwater fishing skills with the goal of making these children responsible marine resource stewards.

This year's event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., April 1st, at Linda Pedersen Park, 6300 Shoal Line Boulevard in Hernando Beach. There are 400 slots to be filled and preregistration is highly recommended. Visit www.weekiwacheeanglersinc.com or call Marvin at (906) 458-1486. weekiwacheeanglersinc.com to complete the application and submit according to instructions no later than March 28. Applicants will then be given a time slot for their participation in this event. As a reminder, only children ages 5 to 15 may participate, and they must be accompanied by an adult.

Every child will be required to go through five hands-on learning stations (for example, knot tying and casting) to be eligible for a free rod and reel. They will then have an opportunity to try out their skills in a catch, photo and release event. Vendors will be on site to provide entertainment, food and information on fishing in Florida waters.
